How to Choose a Room: Ultimate Guide to Carnival Staterooms

And even those reading lights, recessed into the wall so you can read in bed without waking anyone! (Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look. Starting before we even opened the door, the ship features RFID-style door locks. As you enter, you must put a card into a reader to turn on the lights. This helps to keep you from leaving the lights on when you aren’t in the room.

FAMILY HARBOR OCEAN VIEW SUITE

Those who love to read can find a quiet corner on the ship to "chill out" if they choose. Several of the bars are found on the promenade deck, and the indoor seating along the promenade is a good place for people watching. The Universe Lounge is the large show lounge, and the two production shows we saw on our 5-day cruise were excellent. Balcony cabins are what everyone wants these days, and Carnival is building its newest ships with far more of them than in the past. As noted above, about 44% of the cabins Carnival Panorama are balcony cabins. But that percentage jumped to 56% on the newer Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration.

CLOUD 9 SPA OCEAN VIEW

About 44% of the 2,004 cabins on Carnival's Carnival Panorama (launched in 2019) are balcony cabins, for instance. Compare that to the 65% of cabins on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas (launched in 2018) that are balcony cabins. One of our inside cabin's biggest surprise was the bathroom; more particularly, we loved the surprisingly spacious and practical shower. Given how small an inside cabin already is, having the bunk beds suspend from the ceiling (only when being used) would open up the space more and allow for comfortably sitting on the beds. Comparatively, our inside cabin's bunk beds folded out from the wall, meaning the two bunk beds were always taking up space even if not actively being used.

This blog helps over a million people to plan their cruises each month. If you aren’t too bothered about having a view but would like a little more room to move than in a smaller Interior, then a Premium Interior is a good middle ground. You’ll still save money compared to a Balcony but you’ll feel less cramped.

Havana Staterooms & Suites

For our sailing on Carnival Celebration, my sister and I were staying in an inside cabin guarantee. It’s inherently more expensive to sail on a brand-new cruise ship during its inaugural season, so we were content booking an inside cabin because of its affordability. According to Carnival’s specifications on their website, the room measures 185 square feet. This cabin is also a connecting stateroom with a door that can be opened to effectively turn two rooms into one large suite. You may even find some interior rooms that have small porthole windows!

My three children — 14, 11, and 8 — shared an ocean-view stateroom across the hall.

Housekeeping had laid out a mat so Monica could unpack a suitcase on her bed on the first day. Besides that, Monica thought the walls and beds looked largely unadorned. A blue blanket and two matching pillows — both of which featured Cunard's logo — were on the bed when Mikhaila arrived at her stateroom. Mikhaila's steward removed them from the bed every evening and replaced them in the morning. Many hotels we've checked into have stopped offering daily cleaning since the coronavirus pandemic began, but we enjoyed a clean bathroom and fresh towels every day on the Carnival Legend.

Cruise employees cleaned the bathrooms and replenished our towel supplies every day.

On one of Carnival's newest ships, Carnival Panorama, there's no RedFrog Pub, but the Smokehouse Brewhouse has a stage that's home to live music nightly and some of the ship's karaoke sessions. Carnival is also well known for the Punchliner Comedy Clubs on its ships, which draw quality comedians and can get a little raucous late at night with adult-only performances. The latter venue was created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri and serves a free lunch on embarkation and sea days, with all items smoked on board.

Are there any restrictions on who can book a Cloud 9 Spa Interior Room or a Havana Interior Room?

An obstructed view room on a Carnival cruise is one that has something blocking the view from the window or balcony of the room. It may be the lifeboats, or in the case of Interior cabins with a window, it may be the walkway around the edge of the ship. The view you get is pretty limited, especially as the portholes are quite thick – you don’t get a good viewing angle.

These are up to 30 newest stateroom pictures from our collection of cabin pictures. Carnival ships are all about fun, in a lively, let's-not-take-this-too-seriously sort of way. If you're sure you know what sort of cabin you want, on which ship, on which itinerary — and about a dozen other things — you can head over to Carnival.com to book directly.

Compared to older ships in the fleet, Carnival's new-builds have more balcony rooms available. This jumped to 46% on Carnival Panorama and 61% on Carnival Jubilee (Note that these calculations include suites, too). In general, interior cabins on Carnival range from about 155 to 185 square feet, making them more spacious than the inside rooms on some major competitors, like Norwegian Cruise Line! Onboard Norwegian Encore, for instance, an inside cabin measures just 135 square feet.

It will be the same on Carnival Jubilee, a sister vessel to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration coming out in December 2023. On newer Carnival ships, a significant portion of cabins are balcony cabins — the rooms everyone wants these days. But the ratio of balcony cabins to non-balcony cabins on Carnival's newer ships isn't nearly as high as on the newer ships of some rival lines such as Royal Caribbean. As chance would have it, we were sailing the same sailing as my coworker and his family! In all my years of cruising, I’ve never ran into someone I know onboard a cruise ship, so this was a fun coincidence.

Cruise Ship Rooms Cruise Staterooms Accommodations

What’s unusual about Interior Upper/Lower rooms is that while some have portholes and some don’t, they all have the same category code of 1A. If you wanted to have a room with portholes you can request one, but it’ll depend on availability and your ship. So how do you select the best stateroom to ensure you’ll have a relaxing, comfortable cruise? Get all the comforts of home and then some, with absolutely none of the hassles. Or just spend time on your balcony — you’ve got one of our most spacious rooms.

Cabins and suites

Before, there was barely enough space to bend over if you needed to shave your legs or you dropped something. Of course, the natural light coming from the balcony makes a huge difference in the stateroom's ambiance. While our room was pitch-black all the time, which is perfect for napping and sleeping, not having any natural light can be an issue for some. The brand-new cruise ship from Carnival Cruise Line was stylish, chic and trendy. As someone who’s sailed on Carnival a few times, I was blown away by how modern Carnival Celebration was. Carnival Celebration, which just debuted in November 2022, is the cruise line’s newest ship.

I was searching for a getaway in November, so I booked a seven-day cruise on Carnival Legend for my family of five.

The sofa in the extended balcony stateroom converted each night into a sleeper bed (not to be mistaken with a roll-out couch). Essentially, the stateroom attendant would remove the back cushions each evening and the sofa was transformed into a twin bed. During the day, the sleeper bed served as a couch for the stateroom. The layouts between our inside cabin and the extended balcony stateroom were totally different; however, the decor, color schemes and carpet were identical. My coworker's cabin had extra space that did allow for the addition of framed artwork above the sofa, appropriately featuring dolphins swimming.

On both cruises, bottled water was available for a fee.

Our cabins were small but offered a lot of storage that made them feel more spacious. The new Loft 19 enclave found on both Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration offers full bar service, a private pool surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas available for rent. Although small, the bathroom was well designed to utilize the space. We found there to be plenty of storage between the shelves and counter, along with space in the shower to also store cosmetics.

Both the inside cabin and extended balcony stateroom featured a spacious and modern walk-in shower.

Interior room privacy and entertainment options are limited and may not be suitable for larger groups. Consider upgrading to a larger room or booking multiple rooms for more space. Exploring the different categories of cabins on a Carnival cruise, I discovered that there are specialty options for Interior rooms that offer unique perks and benefits. These cabins are designed to cater to specific needs and preferences of guests, and offer a more personalized experience on the ship.

Staterooms

The bunk beds also cut into the sitting space above the twin beds, which did not leave much headspace room for sitting. We mentioned multiple times that having an area to sit other than our beds would have amplified the experience. Since I was sailing with my sister, we opted to have the king bed split into two separate twin beds. Splitting the king bed into twin beds usually makes an inside cabin feel more open - and we found this to be true in our cabin. However, the unused bunk beds above us did make the space feel a bit more cramped than we anticipated. For years, Carnival resisted the industry-wide trend of building massive mega-cruise ships that can hold upwards of 10,000 people onboard.

But, if you aren’t going to feel cramped, or if you plan on barely spending any awake time in your cabin at all, then an Interior Room could be a really good option. They can be pretty cheap, depending on the itinerary and ship, and because they’re a little cosier you might even sleep better. There’s no right or wrong answer on which is the best room on a Carnival cruise because it’s all dependent on the individual.

She also had a safe for storing personal items, which she thought came in handy during port days. Monica thought one of the smartest things she packed on her cruise was a reusable water bottle. This meant she didn't have to shell out $4 for a 1.5-liter water bottle. The nearest drinking fountain was about a five-minute walk away, or she could've refilled from her stateroom's bathroom sink. On the Queen Elizabeth, Mikhaila had to order room service through the room's phone. A dining room card was provided in the drawers of each guest's room.

These are cheaper options than paying for an ocean view room with a larger picture window. As well as being able to enjoy breakfast and daily snacks in the lounge, you’ll also have access to board games, video games and family movies there too. As well as that, by booking a Family Harbor Interior cabin kids will eat free at most speciality restaurants on board. Some Interior Upper/Lower rooms actually have small porthole windows.

At one level, Carnival can best be described as a working man's or working woman's vacation. The typical Carnival customer is a teacher, a nurse, a firefighter, a contractor or the like, either still working or retired. Maybe you'll drink a little too much, eat a little too much, play a little too much — but in the end, you'll say it was your best trip ever.

But there also are bigger "standard" oceanview cabins that measure 220 square feet and "deluxe" oceanview cabins that measure 230 square feet. Located on Deck 10, my coworker's extended balcony stateroom felt very spacious and functional. The cabin features a considerably large balcony with 46 square feet of outdoor space. These extended balconies are approximately 50% bigger than a standard balcony, although there is no extra furniture on the extended balcony.

Budget travelers will find the inside cabins very functional; we felt that Carnival utilized the space as best as the cruise line could. There was a lot of attention to detail to ensure the design optimized the small cabin. For just the two of us, our inside stateroom was more than enough for us to sleep comfortably each evening; however, having 4 people in the standard inside cabin would have been a very tight squeeze. I'd argue that even a family with children would find the space a little cramped.

There’s also the Havana Bar – this is open to all guests, not just those in Havana rooms. It has lively Latin music and Cuban-inspired coffees and cocktails, making it a really fun place to hang out. Overall, there is a type of Interior room for every type of traveler, whether you prioritize budget, relaxation, or family-friendly amenities.

To order room service, Monica could access a digital menu and place orders through her cell phone. In 1968, it was given a Royal Warrant, making it the official chocolatier to the Royal Court of Belgium, according to its website. Mikhaila was pleased to find a bottle of wine waiting for her in the minifridge, a complimentary gift given to all guests at the start of the voyage. It was accompanied by a note from the captain, welcoming all guests on board.

In addition, every ship has at least one — and usually several — extra-charge eateries. The two venues have flat fees of $49 and $24 per person, respectively. Carnival is the undisputed leader among North America-based cruise brands when it comes to affordability, which makes it popular with vacationers on a budget.
